8 Doors to Constant Communion
DOOR #1: THANKSGIVING
There is a war over the nature of God. Satan accuses God to us every day, all day long. Though God works on our behalf continually, dies for us, is fiercely devoted to us, we do not perceive him. We begin to question the goodness of God, whether we can trust him, if He will be there for us.
Yet you were not willing to go up, but rebelled against the command of the LORD your God; and you grumbled in your tents and said, ‘Because the LORD hates us, He has brought us out of the land of Egypt to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites to destroy us. Deuteronomy 1:26-27 (NASB)
But the people thirsted there for water; and they grumbled against Moses and said,
“Why, now, have you brought us up from Egypt, to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?”
“I have loved you,” says the LORD. But you say, “How have You loved us?”
I had a dream in early 2005 where I was crying out Isaiah 42:3 for the Josephs. I saw that in their current state they were weak and beaten up due to a lack of perceived help.
Isaiah 42:3: “A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out.
In faithfulness he will bring forth justice.”
I saw that they had a “plaintive” cry to God, mournful and pitiable. The Lord responded to this plaintive cry. He said, “help is on its way” but then he said the real issue is “Why don't the Josephs trust me? Aren't I a friend? Don't friends trust friends? I am not the incompetent God, I have been there for them and they have not perceived me. The modern day Josephs have strange memories, they always remember the rejection rather than my leading love. They need a new view, rather than viewing everything through the filter of rejection. All they have to do is ask me again, from a place of trust. Just keep asking again.” When we focus on what isn’t happening, what God hasn’t done, we lose rational perspective. Our foolish hearts become darkened.
For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks,
but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Our First & Greatest Weapon is Thankfulness. Giving thanks is our key weapon of spiritual warfare. Giving thanks is remembering what God has done. Dozens of times in scripture they Israelites were told to “remember what the Lord has done.”
* Constant Thanksgiving
Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice (offering) of praise to God,
that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.
Heb 13:15 (NKJV)
Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving;
Psalm 95:2 (NKJV)
* Circumstances / Paul during the Shipwreck!
Until the day was about to dawn, Paul was encouraging them all to take some food, saying, “Today is the fourteenth day that you have been constantly watching and going without eating, having taken nothing. “Therefore I encourage you to take some food, for this is for your preservation, for not a hair from the head of any of you will perish.” Having said this, he took bread and gave thanks to God in the presence of all, and he broke it and began to eat.
Acts 27:33-35 (NASB)
* Give Thanks in All the Activities of Life
Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.
Colossians 3:16-3:17 (NASB)
Therefore be careful how you walk… always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father. Ephesians 5:15-20 (NASB)
Be joyful always; 17pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NIV)
* Give Thanks for our Inheritance in the Eternal Kingdom
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful,
Hebrews 12:28 (NIV)
giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light
Colossians 1:12 (NASB)
* Give Thanks for One Another
For this reason I too, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which exists among you and your love for all the saints, do not cease giving thanks for you, while making mention of you in my prayers;
Ephesians 1:15-16 (NASB)
I thank my God in all my remembrance of you.
Philippians 1:3 (NASB)
* Be Thankful in All our Asking
… in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. Philippians 4:6 (NASB)
Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving.
Colossians 4:2 (NASB)
DOOR #2: ADORATION & PRAISE
I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make its boast in the LORD; The humble shall hear of it and be glad. Oh, magnify the LORD with me, And let us exalt His name together.
Psalm 34:1-3 (NKJV)
Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.
1 Cor. 1:31
“but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things,” declares the LORD.
Jeremiah 9:24 (NKJV)
Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; Talk of all His wondrous works!
DOOR #3: THINKING ABOUT HIM – “SETTING OUR MIND ON THINGS ABOVE”
Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
Col. 3:1-3 (NASB)
Fill your mind with verses, promises, or pictures. Bring your bible or adoration notebook. Roll them around in your mind. “You are fairest among 10,000.” (Ps 42) “If a man were to give all the riches of his house for love, they would be despised.” (Song 8:7) Pictures: recall pictures of Him.
DOOR #4: CONTINUAL CONVERSATION WITH GOD
What is God’s location? What is God’s availability? To not converse with God is to ignore Him.
DOOR #5: ASKING HIM FOR HELP
You have not because you ask not.
“So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. “For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened.
Luke 11:9-10 (NASB)
DOOR #6: LISTENING
Asking Him for His thoughts and insight. “Abba, what is the right approach here?” “What do you think about this?” Spirit of Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Might, Knowledge, and the Fear of the Lord. Listening is an expression of Love!
DOOR #7: WORKING AS FOR THE LORD
Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to win their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. 23Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, 24since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
Col. 3:22-24 (NIV)
DOOR #8: JOY
Be joyful always;
1 Thessalonians 5:16 (NIV)
* Joy is an Expression of Love for God. Put Your JOY on! David: “Bless the Lord O my soul!” If you are not joyful you are proclaiming that God is not good toward you today!
“Because you did not serve the LORD your God with joy and gladness of heart, for the abundance of everything, therefore you shall serve your enemies, whom the LORD will send against you, in hunger, in thirst, in nakedness, and in need of everything.
Deut. 28:47-48 (NKJV)
* If you are in His Presence you have Joy!
In Your presence is fullness of joy.
Psalm 16:11 (NKJV)
* The Reverse is also true: if you put on joy, you enter in His Presence! There's Laughter & Dancing! Enjoy God Everyday! Today, God is Your Reward!
